Rainer Seßner studied mathematics and physics at
the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg
from 1994 to 2001 and received his PhD in 2009 in the field of optics,
information and photonics.
Already during his PhD he worked for Rodenstock GmbH as a developer, manager of innovative optical and optoelectronic systems as well as head of optoelectronics and metrology.
In 2011, he moved to Carl Zeiss Vision GmbH, where he was the head of technology and process development with the faculties of material development, optics production, surface coating, developing a research-oriented advance development and initiating an Industry on Campus professorship within the framework of the Excellence Initiative.
From 2013 to 2016, as Vice President of Technology and Innovation at LEONI Kabel Holding GmbH, he was responsible for establishing and managing the strategic subgroup areas of technology and innovation management, IP management and project management. He also coordinated research and development departments, internal and external technology and innovation networks, universities and research societies, and innovation and technology policy activities.
