Born on 4th December 1958 in Klagenfurt, the son of a police officer and a caretaker, Peter Kaiser began his career in 1978 as a contract staff member in the field of bookkeeping and credit management for building construction and road construction in the Carinthian state government. In addition to his profession - in 1987 he became managing director of the Austrian Youth Hostel Association (ÖJHV) - he completed his studies in sociology and pedagogy at the University of Klagenfurt. In 1988 he graduated with a Masters degree and in 1993 with a doctorate in philosophy. Since July 2008, Peter Kaiser has been a member of the Carinthian Provincial Government. Since April 2013, he has been taking over responsibility for Austria's southernmost state as Governor.
After Carinthia was pushed to the brink of bankruptcy as a result of the hypo-debacle, under its political leadership and in close cooperation with the Austrian Federal Government in 2016, it managed to liberate the province of Carinthia from the overwhelming burden of multi-billion-euro liabilities. Since that time, thanks to the state government led by Peter Kaiser, it is also changing course in all areas. All economic indicators are clearly pointing upwards - from steadily rising employment, economic growth that is at its peak in Austria, to a significantly increased gross regional product and one of the best quotas in research and development in Europe. Peter Kaiser attaches particular political attention to up-to-date education and training in line with current and future requirements as well as to the further development of Carinthia into a top European region in the field of high technology. Not least, in conjunction with the 1.6 billion record investment by Infineon in the Villach location, which has caused a sensation and positive headlines around the world, among others at Joanneum Research and the Silicon Austria Cluster in Carinthia, Carinthia has become a hot spot for digital innovation in the heart of Europe developed.
